After teasing the song on social media, Cody Johnson has released his hotly anticipated new track “The Painter.” The tender love song is the first official single off of the Human: The Double Album follow-up Leather, set to release sometime this fall. The Texas singer-songwriter tells Apple Music that the track immediately reminded him of his wife, Brandi, explaining that she “has this uncanny memory” like the woman at the heart of the song’s narrative. “The song is like, ‘She's got every sunset that she's ever seen memorized,’” he says. “There's different types of men in the world, and I am very much just a ‘man’ man. I'm a little bit rough around the edges, and even worse, I'm a cowboy.
